Sara Boyes has been an actor and writer in fringe theatre and since then, for many years, a creative writing tutor in adult education.
 
Her poems have been published in magazines including Envoi, Acumen and The Interpreter’s House. She has also contributed her work to a number of anthologies, most recently: Soul Feathers (Indigo Dreams, 2011), There Are No Strangers (Word for Word, 2015) and Songs for the Unsung (Grey Hen, 2017).
 
She has produced collections of poetry – Kite (Stride, 1989), Wild Flowers (Stride, 1993), and Black Flame, a pamphlet, (Hearing Eye, 2005) and has edited Frankenstein’s Daughter, an anthology of women’s poetry, (Stride, 1993).
 
For many years she devised, taught and co-ordinated courses in creative writing. She was Co-ordinator of the Summer School for Advanced Writers at Morley College (1998-00), Lecturer on the Certificate in Creative Writing at Birkbeck College (2001-10) and Tutor in Creative Writing for physically disabled students at a day centre in Islington (1999-2014).
 
Her own writing now takes the form of long poems, the stimulus for which comes from various sources. Artefacts (Envoi, Issue 172) which celebrates the composition of Benjamin Britten’s second opera, Peter Grimes, grew from a long time love of Aldeburgh.
 
In St Martin’s Place, a poem commemorating the centenary of Edith Cavell’s execution, was written for an installation created by Unity Arts, on display at St Martin in the Fields, October 2015.
 
She enjoys meeting in small groups with fellow poets to mull over poems-in-progress and she has been a long time supporter of Torriano Meeting House, a poetry venue in North London, where she has given readings.
