Carole Bromley’s first full-length collection, A Guided Tour of the Ice House, is published by Smith/Doorstop Books (October 2011).
 
Carole is a former secondary school teacher. She is married with four children and nine grandchildren and lives in York where she teaches Creative Writing for York University. In 2008 she was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence.
 
She has degrees from Reading and York as well as an MPhil in Writing from Glamorgan.
 
Widely published in magazines and anthologies, she has twice been a winner in the Poetry Business Book and Pamphlet Competition. Her two pamphlets, Unscheduled Halt (2005) and Skylight (2009) are available from Smith/Doorstop Books, Sheffield.
 
Carole has won prizes in the following competitions: Bridport, Keats-Shelley, Elmet, Northampton, Lightship, Ashbourne, Brontë Society, Yorkshire, Ware, Plough, Poetry on the Lake, Housman Society, mslexia, Staple, BT Stay in Touch, Guardian Text Poem, Barnet, Connections, New Forest, Lancaster, Ilkley, Arvon, Bedford and the Manchester Cathedral Religious Poetry Competition.
 
She took first prizes in the Bridport (2005), the Yorkshire Open (2007) and the Brontë Society Competition (2011).
 
Carole has performed her work at the Free Word Centre in London, Aldeburgh Poetry Festival, Ilkley Literature Festival, Scarborough Literature Festival and in the Poets and Players series in Manchester, as well as at the Troubadour, Sheffield Millennium Galleries, Leeds Art Gallery and many venues in and around York.
