Michael Conaghan was born in Belfast in 1962 and was brought up in mid-Ulster at the outbreak of the troubles. He left Northern Ireland to attend University of Kent, where he first began to have his poems published. He moved to Kent permanently in 1992. He has had work in various publications, including the London Magazine, Frogmore Papers, Connections, and Irish magazines such as Fortnight and Black Mountain Review. He has also co-written drama Including 'This Turbulent Priest' based on the life of Thomas Beckett which was taken up by the British Council and played in Brazil. His first book of poetry A Map of Johny Casey (Lapwing Publications) appeared in 2004 and his latest book With Blushes in the Sky (also Lapwing) in 2005. He performs his work regularly in BBC Radio Ulster, and lives in Whitstable with his journalist wife Jane. |
