Mel lives with her partner in a small cottage adjoining the former village Forge which they have converted to become an outlet for local art. She has been writing all her life, but became seriously involved on joining Wey Poets based in Guildford, chairing this group for some years before moving to West Sussex. She completed an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Chichester tutored by Stephanie Norgate and Vikki Feaver, which was a productive period. Her poems have been published in The North, Ambit, Mslexia, Orbis, Iota, Rain Dog, Weyfarers, Krax, and several Anthologies, and she has been placed as a winner and commended in a number of regional competions over the years. She has read at Guildford , Mole Valley and Chichester Festivals. Her first collection, Breaking the Arch was published by Guildford Poets Press (assoc with Wey Poets). She divides her time between writing, teaching Psychology and the demands of the Gallery.
