Joan Sheridan Smith is a retired teacher of English, recently widowed, with three grown-up children and four grandchildren.  She lives in Ipswich and has also lived in London, Norwich and, most recently, North Yorkshire.

Her first collection, An Autumn Perspective, won the Rosemary Arthur award (National Poetry Foundation, 1995) and she has published two other full collections of poetry and several pamphlets, the most recent being Shall We Dance? (Poetry Monthly Press, 2008).
