Christopher North’s first collection A Mesh of Wires was short-listed for the Forward Prize in 1999. His second collection, Poems from the Side Benches, was published in 2002. Before publication he won a number of poetry competitions through the 90s including Manchester, Sunk Island Review, The Chiltern, BBC Wild Life, Kickstart and others.
 
In 1995 he gained a third place in the National Poetry Competition. He has been published in Acumen, Smiths Knoll, Poetry Review, The Independent, Interpreter’s House, Two Rivers et al and anthologised in Smith/Doorstop’s Greek Gifts, the Faber Book of Landscape, Forward 2000 and 2010 and many others.
 
In 2007, his poem Sudden Jazz after Interesting Paperback won the Poetry on the Lake Silver Wyvern first prize award. In 2011 The Photographer won first prize in the Enfield Mayor’s Poetry competition.
 
He has judged several poetry competitions including the Barnet, the Segora, France and the Poetry on the Lake, Italy. He formed and chaired for eight years the Metroland Poets workshop in Buckinghamshire and now runs ‘Stanza Alacant’ which meets monthly at La Seu, University of Alicante in Benissa. He is now resident in Spain where he runs a centre and retreat for writers and artists in the mountains north of Alicante:

Guest poets in the past at the Almàssera have included Michael Donaghy, Mimi Khalvati, Vicki Feaver, Matthew Sweeney, John Hartley Williams, Alfred Corn, Penelope Shuttle and Nikki Jackowska, Christopher is currently engaged in writing a monograph on the Poet’s Notebook – a lifelong obsession.
 
Courses in 2013 include Jo Shapcott, Jane Draycott, Ann Sansom and Tamar Yoseloff.
 
His first full collection Explaining the Circumstances was published in 2010 by Oversteps Books and his joint bi-lingual collection (Eng/Spa) with Terry Gifford: Al Otro Lado del Aguilar (Oversteps Books at Oversteps Books). His third collection with Oversteps, The Night Surveyor was published 2014. A pamphlet collection Wolves Recently Sighted was published by Templar Poetry in 2014 and his most recent, The Topiary of Passchendaele, was a prizewinner in the 2018 Smith|Doorstop Pamphlet Competition.
