A C Clarke is an active member of Scottish PEN and has worked with refugees and asylum seekers on translation projects. She was the ‘Makar’ for the Federation of Writers (Scotland) for 2007-2008.

Her pamphlet, The Gallery on the Left, was published by Akros Press in 2003. She was awarded a menteeship in 2005 on the Royal Literary Fund Mentoring Scheme, her mentor being Mario Petrucci, and her first full collection, Breathing Each Other In, was published in 2005 by Blinking Eye Press and her second collection, Messages of Change, was published by Oversteps Books in 2008. A second pamphlet, A Natural Curiosity, based on exhibits in Glasgow’s Museum of Anatomy, is due out from New Voices Press in November 2011 and her third full collection, Fr Meslier’s Confession, about the atheist priest, Jean Meslier, is due out from Oversteps Books in January 2012. Her translation of the 70 Contrerimes of the French poet, Paul-Jean Toulet, into English and Scots is hoping (probably in vain) for a publisher.

She won the Petra Kenney award in 2005, and was commended in the 2006 National Poetry Competition. In 2007 she won the Brownsbank International Poetry Competition and was short-listed for the Hamish Canham award. In 2011 she won the Grey Hen poetry competition and the Stirling Off The Stanza poetry competition, was placed third in the Ilkley Literary Festival poetry competition and commended for the second year running in the formal class of the Poetry On The Lake poetry competition.

She lives in Glasgow.
