Stephen Payne was born in Merthyr Tydfil and brought up in Stockton-on-Tees. He is an academic cognitive scientist with a particular interest in human-computer interaction, currently Professor of Human-Centric Systems in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath. He lives with his family in Penarth, South Glamorgan.
Since 2005, Stephen’s poetry has been published in magazines and webzines including The Dark Horse, Magma, The North, The Poetry Review and The Rialto. He has reviewed pamphlets for HappenStance Press’s Sphinx webzine and for Sabotage Reviews; he has reviewed full collections for Magma Blogs and The Compass.
In 2010 he was selected by Joanna Cutts and Michael Laskey for the Smiths Knoll mentorship. The pamphlet, The Probabilities of Balance, was published by Smiths Knoll in November 2010.
Stephen’s first full collection, Pattern Beyond Chance, was published by HappenStance Press late in 2015.
