Joanna Ezekiel was born in Redbridge and grew up in various parts of Kent and Essex. She currently lives in Middlesex with her partner. Joanna has always been interested in developing her writing, and since 1998, she has been publishing poems in a range of publications, including Envoi, Other Poetry, Iota, and Jewish Renaissance. Anthologies her poems appear in include Reactions 3 and A Twist of Malice. Joanna's poems have been shortlisted in competitions, including the Norwich Writers' Circle prize, the Writers Inc. prize, and the Bridport Prize. Joanna's pamphlet A Braid of Words was published by Poetry Monthly Press in 2003. In 2007 her second pamphlet Safe Passage was published by White Leaf Press. Ragged Raven Press published Joanna's first full collection, Centuries of Skin, in 2010. Joanna has an MA in Creative Writing and Personal Development from Sussex University. She tutors on creative writing courses for the Open University, and the Open College of the Arts, where she is soon to be an assessor and course updater. Joanna has run creative writing workshops in schools and libraries. Festivals and poetry nights Joanna has been invited to read at include: the Essex Poetry Festival, the Troubadour Cafe, the Wandsworth Arts Festival, the Redbridge Book and Media Festival, and the Rhythm and Muse Club. She reads regularly at local events. Joanna has worked as a primary school teacher and bookshop manager, and now works as a children's librarian. She continues to find energy for writing and working by watching world cinema, going for long walks, and doing the Morning Pages and Artist Date tools from The Artist's Way book by Julia Cameron.
