Jehane Markham was born in Sussex in 1949. She studied painting at Central School of Art but left before completing her Degree to live in a derelict cottage in Ross Common, Ireland.

Jehane is a dramatist and lyricist as well as a poet. She has worked in Radio, Television and Theatre. Her work for radio includes adaptations of modern classics such as The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath and Frost in May by Antonia White as well as original plays, Thanksgiving and More Cherry Cake. Lawrence and Frieda was an acclaimed drama documentary on the life of D.H. Lawrence.

Nina Play for Today, BBC TV. Theatre work includes One White Day, The Birth of Pleasure and Hermes. All her plays have had music incorporated into them. Hermes was a Jazz Opera written with Jazz pianist, Pete Letanka. Rosemary Branch Theatre, 2006.

On the Rim of the World – Libretto by Jehane Markham, Music by Orlando Gough, Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne, Welsh National Opera, 2009.

The Jehane Markham Trio was established in 2004.

In performance Jehane Markham delivers her own poetry with musicians Robin Phillips (piano), and Jonny Gee (double bass). JMT have composed two narrative performance pieces: The London Series and Vladivostok to Moscow.
