Born in Cheltenham in 1955, Angela France feels a deep connection to the land and people of Gloucestershire, where she organised and now runs Cheltenham’s only regular live poetry event: “Buzzwords at The Beehive”, which takes place on the first Sunday of every month. Buzzwords sponsors performances by established guest poets as well as providing space for open mic readers. It currently benefits from funding from Arts Council England. (When her demanding day-job of working with challenging young people permits, Angela can be found scurrying for sources of further funding, referrals to top-notch guest readers and suggestions for improving the programme!) Angela began composing poetry as soon as she could write and she wrote prolifically throughout her childhood. In time, the dark poetry of adolescence was overtaken by adult life and, although writing took a backseat for an interlude, she never stopped reading and enjoying poetry. Her interest in the craft of poetry re-kindled some ten years ago and she has since had work accepted by a number of magazines including Iota, Acumen, The Frogmore Papers, Rain Dog, Obsessed with Pipework, Orbis and Envoi. Her poems have also appeared in the anthologies The White Car, When Pigs Chew Stones (Ragged Raven Press) and Mind Mutations (Sun Rising Books). Angela regularly participates in poetry festivals and online workshops. Since September 2007 she has been studying at the University of Gloucestershire, for an M.A. in Creative and Critical Writing.
